Lower CO2 emissions relative to output

In business, there’s only one way to bring about measurable improvements to sustainability:  examine and optimise your production methods and reassess the way you use resources.
Throughout our history, Conditorei Coppenrath & Wiese have been doing just that. In 2007 we launched our optimisation programme and have been stepping up our activities in this area ever since.

We seize every opportunity to save energy and monitor our CO2 emissions constantly. We continue to work on reducing them in relation to our output.
Over the last few years, our continuous improvement processes have delivered outstanding results. To find out more, read on…

Energy consumption: deliverables for 2013

We firmly believe we can still improve on our environmental achievements so far. That’s why we have set ourselves clear targets:

Energy consumption

Energy consumptionkWh per tonne produced

Since 2003 we have reduced our energy consumption per tonne of goods produced by 18%. We are aiming to save another 10% by 2013.

CO2 emissions

Water consumption

Water consumptionm³ per tonne produced

Since 2003 we have reduced water consumption per tonne of goods produced by 5%. We are aiming to save another 10% by 2013.

Another important element in making more economical use of resources is eco-friendly energy production. At Conditorei Coppenrath & Wiese we have worked continuously to regenerate waste heat from our processes and equipment and use it for our hot water supply. Today 70% of all the hot water we use is warmed using regenerated heat. By 2012 we want to increase that figure to 80%.

Another project we have been working on is the establishment of the DIN ISO 14001 environmental management system. We expect it to be in place and certified by March 2011. The increased transparency it offers us will help us identify further opportunities for saving energy.
